Nobody does anything for nothing. If they let you use that service for free they are getting something for it. Either they are inundating you with ads or they are datamining your activity, or both. I bet if you read the fine print of the AUP both are allowed and agreed to. Scarier than the fact that they might be harvesting your address, you also gave them your password. Think about that..
