there is also zfs which allows you very easy storage aggregation and
fast access.

im guessing networking performance is pretty much equal between linux
and fbsd at this point.

i believe apache still works slightly faster because of TCP_NODELAY
option working differently on fbsd (ack for N bytes vs ack for N packets
on linux) and it does come with http_accept_filter which speeds up http
conversations (this used to be true anyway, quick look around google
doesnt disprove it, but the data i get is kinda old, may be some linux
guru can chime in on that one)

i dont know if this is relevant to you, but pf syntax is way easier than
iptables, and you get alot of fancy options.

there is linux binary compatibility on fbsd, but you would have to check
your arch, last time i looked, amd64 wasnt supported.


personally, i think fbsd makes excellent "core infrastructure" machines,
like primary mx that passes mail to some exchange box or something, or
primary ns or firewalls/routers. but then again, im biased since i never
really used linux in those roles, just for general web hosting.
