I've asked an F5 reseller to get some details, but our consultant says I
should expect a healthy price tag attached to the quote.

In regards to Foundry I've heard that it's good stuff, but the GUI is not
very well done, making configuration a bit more challenging than it should.

Regards,

Frank

Yes. It is included in some license "feature" packs, particularly on the
Viprion's. It may be included by default in most loads running 10.x code
now however.

If you can't easily find an answer I can ask my F5 salesperson.

I will add in my general impression and biases re: load balancers, just
because, well, I can.

I worked at F5 in its early days, and I've been a customer pretty much
continuously since then- so thats more than 10 years using the gear.
Obviously I like their products.

That said, if you do not need their functionality- and won't need it in the
future- then there are obviously other good products out there. For basic
stuff, Foundry has good products and netscalar is probably the closest in
functionality to F5- but nothing on the market compares to what you can do
with iRules. I have found Netscalers reliable, but I am frustrated by their
overbearing UI requirements. F5 is great about keeping cli, config file,
web ui and SOAP api all equivalent in functionality.

When you say "add on", does that mean it comes separately with a price tag?

F5 has support for v6, its a module to add on with most loads. Haven't
tried it myself.

We use Foundry (Brocade) ServerIron kit - they support IPv6 in the
11.x loads.
