What about an applescript script on his desktop that he can double-click which then does all of that and unwinds everything n minutes after you log off?  It's been a while since this thread started so I don't remember the details on how you connect to his MBP but the script could open an SSH tunnel into a server you own and e-mail you that it's available.  If you want it to be totally hands-off from his standpoint you could have it keep an SSH (PPTP, openVPN, etc) tunnel into your server and then use something akin to port knocking to have it open up remote access.  Sure, disabled is more secure but I have little doubt you'll be to lock it down better than the vast majority of machines out there.
