Aye, I had to spend a weekend doing the calculations in the absence of data from those who indicated they'd provide it. :-| > If you're going to make the argument that spam is cheap, you need to include > the full costs of spam, you can't just cherry pick one cost such as > "bandwidth", ignore the others and draw conclusions from that. You're misrepresenting my efforts and argument. I took the information that was available to me and worked from there. I can count on one hand the number of people who have looked at my calculations, or provided input on better ways to calculate things. If you're going to dismiss my data without even looking at it, there's not much value to me continuing to engage is there? - to work out the average cost of 1GB data I browsed over 150 websites looking for pricing info, plugged the figures that were available into a spreadsheet and came up with a figure. You do not need to repeat this! - to work out the amount of spam received (not counting that caught by filters) I looked at the mail over a few months for an address that would not have opted in to any lists, or be the contact address for supplier- client relationships, and worked out an average from there. - I can't use my time on spam as representative of the whole because I spend more time than most on spam, and also get paid for it. (but if spam volumes go up, I spend more hours on it for the same money) I'm asking for more data to improve on my sample-of-one calculations. I'm still waiting. Suppose no-one wants to spend time calculating the costs of spam? Much more fulfilling to vent about it on lists, no? -- Bretton openpgp: http://bretton.hivemind.net/bretton_vine.asc Co-existence / or no existence. - Piet Hein _______________________________________________ IOZ mailing list [email protected] http://lists.internet.org.za/mailman/listinfo/ioz
