It still remains to be seen whether it will become law and whether
the people that are appointed will enforce the full letter thereof, last
I heard was that there is much opposition and it will not in fact become
law... Do you perhaps have more information regarding it's status and
whether the crucial elements of non transferability of database info
to third parties survived?  
I think the huge Life Insurance industry lobbied very hard to be able to 
able to share all data between each other and the nett result of the 
resulting changes to popi would also allow spammers to share/sell 
'your' information if you agreed to one single spammer sending you 
information on whatever that spammer is purveying at that time.

Which renders almost all of the proposed Act as watered down and
of not much real use to combat professional spammers  (and those
low life companies/ISP's that enable the same spammers) *sigh*

I do not like the idea of any central registry, either opt-in or opt-out
and would far rather have spam outlawed once and for all, but I guess
an opt-in registry would be fine as long as there is adequate controls
to establish that the 'real' consumer opted in and that the consumer
was not just added 'by accident' as I can see quite huge battles if 
someone goes and add info@ sales@ support@ andre.co.za for
example and then I 'legally' receive 100MB worth of spam daily, so much
that I am unable to even access the Internet...

So an opt-in registry that can be sued civilly, for real money, if they
screw up or add consumers falsely or negligently?
