Re: cable cut, sat-3 maybe? in early 2000s

I have a vague memory of a complete failure after a terrorist incident 
in New York.  Not I think 9/11 but a different one where the servers 
stayed up for  while and then ran out of fuel for the back generators.   
Wikipedia reports that some TV and radio stations were out for a week.   
Certainly the SA UNINET service was impacted and I guess the start up 
ISP companies were also suffered.

This apparently was in February 1993 and shows a) that I an getting old 
and b) that universities were seriously using international networks 
even then.  I do remember getting flack from some of my users.

I am wondering of some of this discussion is not moving 1993 forward 10 
years.
