When I was growing up in the UK (after I had finished growing up in NZ, and before I started growing up in Canada) local calls weren't free, the idea of idly chatting to people for hours on end was absurd. In North America adults there's a noticeable cultural difference, and it's jarring when someone calls me at home for no particular reason, since their ingrained assumptions from their youth are different from mine. So maybe I'm more inclined than most people in my immediate circle to prefer almost any means of communication over a phone call. I also can't be bothered to look up growth numbers in voice vs. text vs. data in cellular markets right now. Contents may have settled in transit, etc. However: - I doubt many markets see the same growth in voice termination as they do in text and data - I would be surprised if the divergence is not increasing. My expectation is that in most places the demand for voice termination is (or will soon) take a back seat to packet data and text messages, with the natural conclusion that in cellular markets, voice will become a marginal application riding on the data network that many subscribers will just not bother installing.
