Optical Engineer" Network Engineer Posting Date: 11/15/02 Position Number: 2002-NE1 Job Description: The Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC) is seeking two Network Engineers to provide implementation and engineering support of CENICs advanced services network, including the CalREN-XD (Experimental Development), CalREN-HPR (High Performance Research), and CalREN-DC (Digital California) networks. Reporting to the Director, Network Engineering and Design, the Network Engineer's scope of responsibilities includes but is not limited to the following functions: technical network design, including equipment configuration and routing design; network performance and measurement; problem troubleshooting and resolution, including interaction with carriers, vendors, and the CENIC NOC; and project management. In addition, the Network Engineer will: work with the CENIC Technology Advisory Council and other groups to ensure the successful planning, development and implementation of new advanced network services and infrastructure; advise the Director on matters related to the network design, performance, and day-to-day operations; represent the Director and CENIC, as requested; communicate network configuration and design information to the CENIC NOC, oversee the engineering services provided by the CENIC NOC for accuracy and compliance with CENIC standards; prepare and submit written and oral progress reports, as requested. This position requires: meeting employment qualifications of at least one of the CENIC Charter Associate universities or DCP node sites; recent hands-on experience with advanced IP networking protocols, services, and networks, including Abilene; detailed understanding of the operation, interaction, and configuration of IP routing protocols including BGP-4, OSPF, and (E)IGRP; detailed understanding of IP multicast, MPLS, policy-based routing, DiffServ, RSVP, QoS, IPv6, and NAT; in-depth knowledge of Cisco and Juniper router configuration, management, and operations; excellent organizational and written/oral interpersonal communications skills Preference will be given to candidates with any/all of the following: knowledge of CalREN-2, 4CNet and Los Nettos; knowledge of CENICs ONI and DCP Projects; Experience in a university/research environment Experience with optical transmission systems such as WDM Please send cover letter referencing job 2002-NE1, resume, and salary history to CENIC 4665 Lampson Ave. Los Alamitos, CA 90720 Attn: Rita Knott or via email to [email protected].
