First REPforum get-together

Our first REPforum get-together happened at NANOG28 during
Monday's lunch break.

Chris Caputo from SIX, Sean McCreary from PCH/Colorado
Co-op, Todd Christell from SpringNet and I (from Utah
Community Internet Exchange) had Thai lunch in Salt Lake,
along with a few people from UEN (who were nice enough to
pick up the tab).

It's been a long week already, and I didn't take notes, so
here's some of the things I can remember.

Sean shared a lot of information about exchanges in Asia and 
other parts of the world and the models they are adopting. 

I talked about some recent successes we have had talking to 
large carriers about regional peering, and about our recent 
focus on developing a transit exchange in Utah.

Todd shared some details of the St. Louis REP project and 
the involvment he has had with that.

Chris talked about how SIX continues to grow, especially
with the recent PAIX interconnect. A lot of the success SIX
has experienced originates from early engagement with local
content providers (primarily Microsoft) who now are
attracting a lot of new peers. SIX continues to operate on a
low-cost volunteer basis, which seems to be part of it's
success.

We discussed having a REPforum get-together in the fall
around the St. Louis REP project, but it seems that many
people have very tight budgets and may not be able to travel
in person. Maybe the next NANOG (in Chicago) may be an
easier place for more of us to meet? Or we could make the
fall get-together a virtual one via H.323 or other means.

I had a number of regional peering conversations at NANOG,
which I will address to the list shortly.
