Could you please enlighten me on this. The dynamic public IP is assigned to
router/modem but it's web config tool can't be accessible to public. Your
machine is configured with private IP. This is the best setup with all sort
of security IMO.

configuring pppoe is too simple in debian. pppoeconf will do all the task
for us :-)
