Here's the output of my fdisk -l command in Red Hat. > > Disk /dev/hde: 40.0 GB, 40060403712 bytes > 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4870 cylinders > Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes > > Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System > /dev/hde1 * 1 1275 10241406 c Win95 FAT32 (LBA) > /dev/hde2 1276 3147 15036840 f Win95 Ext'd (LBA) > /dev/hde3 3148 4039 7164990 83 Linux > /dev/hde4 4040 4109 562275 82 Linux swap > /dev/hde5 1276 3085 14538793+ b Win95 FAT32 > /dev/hde6 3086 3123 305203+ 83 Linux I successfully mounted /dev/hde1 and /dev/hde5 I had assumed that the same partition names will be received as o/p of fdisk in Ubuntu Live. I was wrong. Instead of /dev/hde1 it was /dev/sda1 and so on. I changed the parameters accordingly and sucessfully mounted hde1 and 5. :) Problem was with hde2. This partition doesn't show up in Windows or Red Hat. The person who installed Red Hat had forgotten about this partition. I tried mounting it in both RH and Ubuntu. Both showed errors. Here's the error that showed up in Red Hat. > mount: error while guessing filesystem type > mount: you must specify the filesystem type this was when i gave the command #mount /dev/hde2 /mnt/disk2 instead i gave #mount -t vfat /dev/hde2 /mnt/disk2 i tried fat32,ext3 instead of vfat too, but it still doesn't mount. :( >>>Anirudh ps : sorry for the delay in replying.
