Hi,

It is with great pleasure , that we inform you that we are in the last
stages of making a FSUG @ FISAT. So, we are conducting a FOSS activity in
regard with it along with the IEEE SB FISAT. Looking forward to hear from
you.

*Details of Hacking Workshop*

* *

*Audience : *Engineering college students and members of various FSUGs,
LUGs etc... *Strength * * :* Around 100

*Dates* * : *9th, 10th, 11th March 2006* *

*Topics : *Introduction to the world of hacking,

Device driver authoring,

Device Hacking,

GNU/Linux Remastering,

And much more…

*Speakers : Pramode C E, IC Software, Thrissur.*

*Vimal Joseph, SPACE, **Trivandrum**.*

*Shakthi Kannan, Hexaware, Chennai.*

*And many more…*

* *

*Details : *The first of its kind in kerala, this will have topics
spanning the width and breadth of computing. Rather, than focusing on
network hacking, we bring hacking in all its flavours, network hacking,
device hacking, driver authoring and many more. This will also give the
participants, a peek into the strange but inquisitive world of the hackers.
Hacking in its truest sense, than the media created hype and crap. If you
"as a child enjoyed breaking toys the very first day you got it, to know how
it works", then this event is for none other than you, the ones with
unquenchable thirst for reasoning and knowledge. The prerequisite is a sound
knowledge in programming [preferably 'C'] and some experience on any Unix
style system [ BSD, GNU/Linux, GNU Hurd, Solaris].

*Details of **Phoenix** Workshop*

* *

*Audience : *Teachers of various Schools and Science colleges in and around
Angamaly.

*Strength :* Around 30

*Dates : **10th March 2006***

*Topic :* Introduction to experimental physics through Phoenix.

*Speaker : Pramode C E, IC Software, Thrissur.*

*Details : *

Performing experiments should be the fun part of learning science subjects
but students at college level do the traditional lab experiments just by
following a set of inflexible steps of instructions. Experiments devised
decades ago are still repeated and modernization is hindered by lack of
funding. Research laboratories around the world performing physics
experiments use various types of sensors interfaced to computers for data
acquisition. They formulate hypotheses, design and perform experiments,
analyze the data to check whether they agree with the theory. Unfortunately
the data acquisition hardware used by scientists is too expensive for
college laboratories where teaching is the main goal and not research.

With the advent of inexpensive personal computers the only missing link
is the data acquisition hardware that is fast and sensitive enough to do
physics experiments. If such data acquisition hardware is cheap enough then
college level or even school laboratories could afford to do experiments
using computers and perform numerical analysis of the data. Phoenix provides
such a solution.

The objective of PHOENIX is to enable teachers and students to design
and perform experiments. The basic interface hardware that provides a set of
Analog and Digital Input/Output channels has been developed. Science
experiments can be designed using proper sensor elements to measure physical
parameters like temperature, pressure, position, velocity etc.
