help required

     I had a problem when I installed pfaedit into a Mandrake distro.
The error is shown below.

Help! Server claimed font
-urw-courier-medium-r-normal--13-0-0-0-m-0-iso8859-1
existed in the font list, but when I asked for it there was nothing.
I think I'll crash soon.

      The application was slow and i dont know what's the problem.
Is it because of some package not being present in this installation.
The same source had been compiled under debian and it worked smoothly.


      Also Inorder to type using the rachana font in the pfaedit the malayalam 
locale was needed to work. How can one change the locale in GNOME.
KDE can change the locale in one click at the pannel but does GNOME have a similar functionality.

      Again how do i compile a different locale or change the settings in the current locale. 
The current malayalam locale has two keyboard layout. How do I specify which layout to use in the new one I am creating.
