Re: [indoexpat-uk] Maths pupils in England two years behind Chinese by age 16

Sampai sekarang aku gak begitu mengerti sistim pendidikan di UK dan sudah
tidak mengerti lagi sistim pendidikan di Indonesia khususnya sejak aku
tinggal di UK.... katanya udah berubah...
Anak sulungku waktu secondary school aku encourage ambil Math (karena itu
aku dan itu yang ditekankan Bapakku)...dilawannya dan ditolaknya aku...aku
biarkan saja... Di A Level tahun pertama tidak diambilnya Math tapi
Psikology...
Ntah karena apa, tahun kedua A-Level digantinya Psikology ke Math... dan
akhirnya, walaupun cuma 1 tahun dia dapat A (2 points less for A*) dan itu
juga salah satu nilainya yg mmbuat dia dapat tempat di Imperial College
tahun lalu.... Dalam 1 tahun itu dia ngebut utk mmpelajari Math, gurunya
impressed, tapi itu membuat kami orang tuanya jadi khawatir... dia jadi
less sleep dan kadang2 mau menggigau walau tidak tidur...

Dalam Kristen ada istilah confirmation (sidi dalam bahasa Batak/Indonesia),
Waktu secondary school aku encourage dia utk mengikuti semacam kursus ke
agamaan di Gereja kami dalam proses utk confirmation itu...dia
menolak...aku biarin ...(ya udahlah, BApaknya juga gak alim2 banget) ...
sekarang dia lebih respek terhadap Agamanya daripada Bapaknya...

Itulah utk sekarang contohnya utk anakku....gak tahu nanti bisa berubah dia
jadi goblok atau bejat... who knows ... yg jelas sbg orang tua akan
berharap lebih baik...

Anyway, fasilitas dan sistim pendidikan sangat banyak mendukung bakat dan
kemampuan... kalau memang individual nya bisa memanfaatkan nya... Di
Indonesia..amangoi amang (alamak)...semua kursus diikuti anak2 yang
"berduit" (kalau anaknya nurut) walaupun sudah sekolah di sekolah yang
"tinggi" mutunya... over menurutku ...tapi itu juga karena harapan atau/dan
kekhawatiran orang tua akan masa depan anak2nya...but.. no but... semua ada
konsekwensinya... baik dan buruk...

Itu yang bisa aku nimbrung.
Falsafah yang masih kupercaya, "Semanja apapun seseorang, kalau dilepas di
hutan belantara, akan bisa melakukan hal2 yang gak pernah dilakukannya demi
bertahan hidup...dan bukan hanya berdoa saja...." ... "gak ada orang yang
goblok, yang malas belajar yang banyak"
That's only my philosophy... maybe not for others ... don't mention it if
too much... :-)
