After talks with Tech Mahindra [1] and Wipro [1] failed to materialize, DoT is going ahead to set up the lab by itself, with help from IISc. From what it seems, the funding model could not be resolved with both the companies (Wipro quoted around Rs. 275-300 Crore, while department had allocated Rs. 100 Crore during the 12th Plan.) http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/news-by-industry/telecom/dot-to-set-up-security-lab-to-test-network-gear-used-by-mobile-phone-companies/articleshow/20867132.cms "*Both the companies have recently told DoT that the proposed lab can be set up only after a workable funding model is thrashed out since testing tools to certify networks cost millions of dollars and involve multiple stakeholders.*" "*If the lab doesn't become operational on time, mobile phone companies may face problems in deploying imported telecom gear from October since the test facility is proposed to serve as a clearinghouse for all imported network equipment.*" [1] http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2013-04-01/news/38189634_1_authorised-lab-tech-mahindra-testing-lab [2] http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2013-05-29/news/39601993_1_telecom-gear-telecom-department-telecom-equipment-testin Best, Manish _______________________________________________ India-gii mailing list [email protected] http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/india-gii
