Thanks all to those who responded. Ultimately turned out to be a case of a hacked router. I am still trying to figure out, how it is possible, but reading some online forums I guess that bunch of SOHO routers are fairly easy to hack-into, and even modify the firmware. I wasn't so sure that it'd be possible and be the cause, till I reflashed my router with original firmware, and bingo, I'm able to browse google and facebook once again.
