1. Make sure your router password is changed from admin / admin or whatever 2. Make sure the web interface used to configure your router is not available on your WAN port That cuts down on most of the attacks. I am still trying to figure out, how it is possible, but reading some online forums I guess that bunch of SOHO routers are fairly easy to hack-into, and even modify the firmware. I wasn't so sure that it'd be possible and be the cause, till I reflashed my router with original firmware, and bingo, I'm able to browse google and facebook once again.
