1. Make sure your router password is changed from admin / admin or whatever

2. Make sure the web interface used to configure your router is not available on your WAN port

That cuts down on most of the attacks.  There’s some malware that infects you and then compromises your router - dnschanger etc - so scan your laptop for it as well.
