The user experience described here matches that of my own during last=20
India visit (Feb 2015 in places like Delhi=2C Chandigarh and Patna). I=20
took my iphone (5s 3 years old tech) to India and got a sim (airtel=20
with 4G or 3G=2C cannot recall which one) in two days after providing=20
three set of pictures and filling out a form.

Indian Telecom Service is really bad=2C if any one uses phrase world-class=
=20
for such a service=2C s/he should be paid from tax payers money to travel=20
across world to experience what the phrase "world-class" should actually=20
mean.

Basically=2C India has fallen into a poverty trap. I doubt it ever has=20
been out of one for last 200 hundred years or so. It is clear that=20
Indian economy is not creating capital (and good ideas) enough to=20
upgrade infrastructure (like roads=2C airports =2C telecom=2C electricity=
=2C=20
railway etc) as it seems caught between consumers who cannot afford=20
(because they cannot earn enough due to lack of good opportunities or do=20
not want to pay enough=2C encouraged by politicians who promise everything=
=20
to all for free) and providers who cannot service at loss. And=20
government holds leviathan like control on markets making any virtuous=20
move impossible. Rampant inflation to allow government to borrow and=20
pay ridiculous salaries to government employees and fund populous vote=20
gathering wasteful programs has been killing value of Rupee since I can=20
recall. A piece of samosa that cost 50 paise in 1990s costs about 20=20
times more these days. Why would be there some motivation to work hard=20
and save in cash (in rupee) that loose half or more of its value every =20
next 10 years.

All most all technology in India is imported. The technical education is=20
a big scam. In 2004=2C when AB Vajpayee was PM=2C realizing the scam that=
=20
education ( particularly technical education) has become=2C he made an=20
start to privatize IITs (The Indian Institutes of Thuggery) and some=20
successful Indians from Silicon Valley likes Kanwal Rekhi (an IIT Kanpur=20
alumni) were part of team to study the process. The technical education=20
scam has since only grown. We spends crores of rupee on feeding=20
teachers and students at these IITS to get nothing of value in return. =20
Most of them who teach at these IITs are incompetent=2C no more capable=20
than some kind of glorified primary teachers=2C who=2C to keep themselves=
=20
relevant=2C write letters in support of net neutrality. How is=20
net-nutrality working out=2C BTW? Indian tax payers are the net losers. =20
The last most flamboyant scam was an scheme to provide $50 tablets=20
produced by Indian Institutes of Thuggery in Rajasthan. World has moved=20
far beyond that since then.

The present administration seems to have turned back from what I would=20
expect from a right leaning regime and is doubling down on same policies=20
that took Indian down at the first place. As if India is falling=20
behind due to not having enough IITs=2C this government is creating these=
=20
white elephants now pretty much in every district along with its hybrid=20
cousin (some kind of central university). Are central universities=20
teaching better than state universities?

Clearly the Indian and its technical education through myriad of=20
taxpayer funded overrated institutions has reduced to nothing but a big=20
scan to get taxpayers money from one group of people to another.

At the end of day=2C nothing can be more shameful for a country than to=20
see Phd and Master degree holders apply for a sweepers job in thousands=20
at Mumbai Municipal corporation.

Sincerely=2C
Ratnendra Pandey
