It seems to me that the main reason for less new hire (short term) is
Trump/USA uncertainties and major difficulties in getting US visas leading
to less US outsourcing. This has been the classical back office /
maintenance work. Indian companies may take up some slack as more have web
presence as you mention but this is not as lucrative as US market.

In the other hand, the automation and disruptive technologies (I prefer to
lump them with 5G tag) is just beginning with no clear view - just like
first introduction of iPhone which was a "hand held internet access device"
with lousy voice call capabilities. Look at how it evolved to smart phones
of today.

So new skills will be needed and adaptation to these but I see this as a
must around 2022 -2025 timeframe when it might be cheaper to migrate to new
platforms rather then maintain current one, hence possible negative impact
on today's Indian IT industry which is essentially in maintaining legacy
systems. They need to change as per article so pressure in new hires; IMHO.
