hello, I am writing to urge you to include Human-Computer Interaction professionals more directly in the development of any technical systems. Technology often makes it easy to believe one is making progress by applying it, when in fact one is instead inviting various forms of doom across the threshold. I realize those words might sound overly dramatic, but they are not wrong: consider that recently Therac 25 style news items have come to light e.g. via the NY Times [1]. When people blame "user error" what they should probably be blaming is "error on the part of those who engineered the system in the first place, which allowed or led to end-user error." Those who do not learn from history, etc. sincerely.
