Dear Linux People, I am considering switching to Linux and as I live in Beijing, this list seems an obvious place to start (I was alerted to your existence by the ad in 'That's Beijing' magazine). To begin with, does anyone know a supplier of cheap, legal, English-language Linux in BJ? I don't have a CD-writer & therefore downloads are useless. I realize that this is a very basic question, but I need to begin somewhere! Please accept my apologies if you have just covered this ground in your 'Install Fest', but I only accessed the website today. A second and rather optimistic request: would you be willing to help me set up a Linux installation in English? If so, read below* for more details. Many thanks for your help, Matt Forrester *Last year, I bought a Chinese desktop PC. I asked the company to install TurboLinux, but they installed illegal Windows XP. I am looking for someone who knows Linux to help me move to an easy version of Linux, and the other software I need to use: basically OpenOffice, Netscape and some multimedia players. I have more than ten years' experience of DOS/Windows systems (and a little Unix at my last university), but my last attempt to install Corel Linux failed. I can't afford to pay commercial prices for this (I'm a university teacher), but I would be happy to take you to a hotpot/minority restaurant afterwards... _______________________________________________ blug-tech list [email protected] http://list.beijinglug.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/blug-tech
