Hi there,

I have just pretty much finished writing a scripting language for a
project (personal, unfortunately, not professional). It seems to me to
work pretty well - it is a neat solution for what I needed, and I think
can have some general application. Anyone interested in trying it out?

The language looks like C with minor differences to make scripting more
convenient (no typing, default arguments, pass-by-value or
pass-by-reference, macros, and a bunch more). The big advantage it has is
object support. The objects are intended to be mainly wrappers for Java
objects, allowing a lot of flexibility in working with java objects from
the scripting environment. Functions can be defined either in the language
itself, in "smart" java objects that understand the language, or (with
some limitations) can call java objects directly. I used it to write
output routines for a CD organizer, but I think it would be really useful
for things like writing skins for java applications, or other things where
you might want to make changes without mucking with the application source.

The language code is small (70k jar file compiled, 60k for the source -
though it could use some more documentation), and a good introduction to
compilers for anyone interested in seeing how they work. I've been playing
with it for a few days now and it seems pretty stable, so it should not be
too big a waste of anyone's time but mine. Anyone care for a new toy?

russell
