VLC under FC2

Hi,
Has anyone had any success getting VLC to run under Fedora Core 2?

I downloaded:
vlc-binary.tar.gz (VLC Binaries packages) 
fedora1-updates.tar.gz (Updates required to run VLC on Fedora Core)
…and tried to install them as stated on the web page, but it had multiple
dependency problems (no doubt due to the differences between FC1 and FC2).

Alternatively, are there any other good DVD players for FC2?
