Jim, Interconnection between ChinaNet and Sprintlink is always clogged. This week it has been at its worst for this year yet. I am also clocking the same as Adam. If you buy a broadband service from a locally competing carrier, e.g. Unicom, be advissed that Unicom's network peers with ChinaNet which is the lifeline to anyone wanting to access content outside of China. Whatever you do you will go through a CNC or a China Telecom Network. (Bad) Service Guaranteed! You can get more information on China's networks from www.cnnic.net (they have network diagrams and bandwidth breakdowns), http://www.citynetchina.net/english/GreatExpectations031029.pdf. Lease a line and a 10 meg port on the interlink between China and the US. Might set you back a couple 100 K though. -Ali -----Original Message----- From: blug-tech-bounces-+qp3TudyjKPvfBIPTTProkB+6BGkLq7r@public.gmane.org [mailto:blug-tech-bounces-+qp3TudyjKPvfBIPTTProkB+6BGkLq7r@public.gmane.org]On Behalf Of Adam Lowry Sent: Sunday, March 07, 2004 11:02 PM To: Beijing LUG technical questions and assistance - Publicly posted Subject: Re: [blug-tech] [OT] Dalian ISPs? Traceroute is better than yours, but it's the same problem. Here's an excerpt: 7 202.96.12.37 (202.96.12.37) 7.449 ms 7.237 ms 7.186 ms 8 219.158.3.14 (219.158.3.14) 7.516 ms 7.054 ms 7.126 ms 9 sl-gw23-ana-1-0.sprintlink.net (144.228.173.249) 491.745 ms 487.764 ms 493.701 ms 10 sl-bb20-ana-3-3.sprintlink.net (144.232.1.45) 496.404 ms * 458.940 ms 11 sl-bb24-ana-13-0.sprintlink.net (144.232.1.138) 495.507 ms 463.220 ms 484.884 ms That jump to sprintlink is the big one, and it's happening at the same time as yours. I haven't been following the discussion too closely, but it looks like the biggest problem might not be in Dalian. That 60-70ms ping before the jump to sprintlink is suspect, though.
