Richard, If the desire was just to use and get on with the job Matteo could have just shared out one of his XP machines. It might have taken him 15 seconds to do. It would have its faults but he could have been up working. I do not want to speak for Matteo, but I assume he wants to explore some of the Linux technology, not just get going. >Not to paint the issue of learning and understanding as bad. Not my >point. But if your desire is not to learn or understand - but to just >use - then I think an approach like e-smith is a better use of your time >and education time allocation. ;-) I find E-smith interesting as an approach to replacing the MS small business server. From the limited information that I have it seems to replace a black box (MS) with a grey box. You can look inside and tinker if you want to, or you can just tick boxes etc. It seems to me that the whole of Linux depends to some extent on config scripts. It is its strength and weakness. How helpful Esmith is to understanding the Linux approach, I am not sure. I intend to have a look and see. >I only mention e-smith, because there are many great new problems out >there to solve and new technologies to play with.
