These things may have a relationship: (1) Recently (1-2 weeks ago), whole segments of the Chinese internet couldn't use DNS at all; all traffic to port 53 just disappeared. That technical mistake was corrected, however. Maybe China's experimenting with a new DNS blocking system? (2) Verio recently put a DNS root server in China. http://thewhir.com/marketwatch/ver021904.cfm Maybe it's up and running, just not configured properly? Anybody have some inside info?
