[DLC]Google search appliance install

Hi folks,

I've acqiured a couple old Google Search Appliance boxes from a
friend.  One I've recommissioned into a nice Linux box, the other
I've had some trouble getting it to boot off anything but the
hard drive.

I don't consider myself too noob to normally get this working, but
its taking me long enough now that I just don't want to spend any
more time on this and thought that someone here might suggest
something I've missed.

Here is what I've got and as I can remember, what I've done...

Google called this a GB-1001, but inside the motherboard is a
Gigabyte GA-6VTXDR.  It has a built in floppy, CD-ROM drive and
an hot swap 80 GB hdd.  Its basically just a 1U rack mount server.

I've had to bust open the case with power tools (these boxes were
not made to be tampered with in the field) and reset the BIOS.
There is an option to boot from CD as the first drive, but doesn't
seem to actually do so.  Also tried a USB-based CD and a USB stick
with legacy USB support enabled in the BIOS.  Inside things seem to
be connected OK (IDE).  Perhaps booting from a floppy works, but I
can't bring myself to go through that.  I really don't want to
spend anymore time on this.  I want Debian on this thing, but did
try a Ubuntu disk I had and that started to boot, but froze after
the initial ISOLINUX message.  Tried making a disc using a slower
burn rate, no luck.

My last ditch effort will be to go get a portable floppy, some
floppies and give that a try.  Blech.
