I believe a good number of people on this list have attended flourish in some capacity at one point or another..... One of the Flourish hosted a coding competition.. where we chose a non-profit of a good cause needing a particular service. I believe that we had a Web framework competition and the winner's product became an open source solution that ended up being used by the non-profit. I just wanted to open this up to discussion. 1. If you attended that year, participated in the event itself, any particular feedback, comments, improvements. 2. Would you like to see/participate in a similar event for the next Flourish? 3. Is there a particular non-profit that your aware of that has a need that you'd like to see filled? 4. Since doing another competition for web framework would seem.. silly from a technical perspective. (if web2py won last year, pending the same level skill of developers this coming year, it should show the same results). I'd like to open it up to more then simply a web framework, and no limit it be a technology.... taking a different approach as in: You are given this particular problem that needs to be solved. The United Penguin Salvation Front is in dire need of blah. design, architect, and deploy a solution. Possibly tying to a mobile computing technology, ...maybe? I'm not sure how feasible it would be.. and I think I'm starting to divert here.. but take.. iPhone, Android, Palm's WebOS, Symbian. The fact that it's become so cheap and easy to be mobile and on the Internet, usually with GPS and other functionality.. it should be interesting to see if we can award something to the most imaginative use of the technology for sheer amusement.. for the benefit of humanity.... that might be a bit too technical, and requiring developers who are fairly knowledgeable on the topic... The entire phone bit is a complete fork of my initial question.. but still valid. If any of my rants made sense to you... or have any comments, please feel free to comment. I've tagged a few lists in this email, I should be on all of them... you can also feel free to contact me off-list as well. -- -- Samir Faci *insert title* fortune | cowsay -f /usr/share/cows/tux.cow _______________________________________________ DLC mailing list [email protected] http://mailman.depaul.edu/mailman/listinfo/dlc Use the Above Link to Unsubcribe!! http://linux.depaul.edu/
