Isaias,

  DLC used to hold weekly meetings during the term, typically @ LPC.  I do
not know the current schedule.

  Gentoo was a fun distro, now I typically use Centos/Ubuntu and RHEL.  Most
hosting companies use these and I like to have my dev environment match
prod.  I have a Macbook pro that I use with darwin ports as my main
machine.  I know.... not linux.  But I live in the console and am a linux
advocate.
