There is a thread on Debian-user about how ready Linux is for the
Desktop, this link was mentioned:

Let's hope that we don't start judging user friendliness by clueless 
users or [ex] Windows users standards. A computer without CLI access is
a very unfriendly computer indeed! (Yeah, Windows has a CLI, but if the
GUI goes kaput, is it accessible?)

Perhaps, when people ask how user friendly is it - they actually mean is
it dumbed down enough?
