Fresh install. I had gone nowhere near sources.list

No. sources.list is below.
Silly me did not specify which package and whether I used apt-get or
aptitude (though I'd be surprised if that made a difference).
Looking into /var/log/apt/history.log I see that at 14:50 on the day I
installed: linux-firmware-nonfree:i386
Start-Date: 2014-03-12 14:50:45
Install: linux-firmware-nonfree:i386 (1.11ubuntu2)
End-Date: 2014-03-12 14:50:50
I cannot now reproduce the problem. Sigh. But this happens from time
to time in a seemingly random manner. Double sigh.
