I have used Audacity extensively for several years.

Working on a theory it is a bug in PortAudio

I am dissapointed there is not a simple utility for recording that only
records.  It is a crucial step and for recording live (which I do a lot
of) it must not go wrong.  There is no second chance.

Perfect for a really small programme.
