The service Google Docs is quite good. It is not perfect and if you
take any steps to protect your on-line privacy you will find it simply
does not work. Which is a hint as to what is wrong with Google.
To be clear: It is not Google Docs I have problems with, but Google.
There is no advantage to me in being tracked by Google, or anybody. I
take care (as much as I am able) to not be tracked by cookies and Java
Script* but to use most of Google's services I have to stop caring.
Try browsing through the Tor network and access Google. They really do
not like it, and in many cases stop you. It plays havoc with their
assumptions.

* Java Script. I am a huge fan of what Java Script can do, and I make
extensive use. But IMO there is no justification for loading Java
Script from any server other than the one I have accessed. As a random
example the first link, as I write from Hacker News, is on
http://karpathy.github.io/. The particular page wants to load JS from
cdn.mathjax.org. It is touching that the folks at karpathy.github.io
trust those at cdn.mathjax.org. But why should I? Why should I let my
data be sent to cdn.mathjax.org? In the general case it is without the
users knowledge and in all cases at the users expense. This is, IMO, a
bug in the specifications. It should not be allowed. I have nothing
good to say about cookies. Nothing at all. Stop using them.
