Yeah, that makes sense, and I agree. There's a cost/benefit analysis that
you need to make, and it seems for you the cost outweighs the benefit. For
me, at work (and at home) I'm willing to sacrifice some privacy for some
convenience.

You seem to be on the right track for a solution - open source & self
hosted are your two biggest requirements I guess.

Perhaps consider an easy-to-use wiki package, adequately secured? I'll keep
thinking about this, there *has* to be a way...
