There is a difference between being assertive and being agressive.

As regards to social behaviour on Mailing Lists, there is normally a
Code of Conduct where people can be pointed to when they cross the line
of what is considered acceptable behaviour.

The Code of Conduct normally also covers other issues such as top
posting, whether HTML mail is acceptable, use of foul language, etc. etc.
