how about we simply agree to treat each other as we would in the pub, smile a 
lot and take everything with a grain of salt.

Personally I think there's lots of different ways to do open source, I value 
the diversity - the tension I see here mirrors a lot of tensions we've always 
seen (remember the storm-in-a-teacup over Qt?)- free vs. free, open source as 
a philosophy vs. as a business, people who code for fun and for a job etc etc 
no one lives at any one end of those continua, I know I hang out somewhere in 
the middle. 

Remember that the people here doing great stuff with Ubuntu don't make policy 
for their company, and they have to make a living - that means finding a way 
to pay them to do all that cool stuff - there are lots of different ways to 
solve the "how do you pay people to open source?" problem - IBM sees it as an 
investment in their systems products, the last company I worked for just hired  
well known kernel and libc developers and kept them on staff, which worked 
while they could afford it, for Canonical it's their core business and they 
have to find some way to pay the bills - if you don't like it don't use it, 
diversity is what keeps us alive

So please try and smile when you post, just like you would while sharing a 
beer
