EMR from electrical wiring can be a suspect, too. I know that our cordless works better when I pull it away from the wall. Because I did the wiring, I know there's some 2.5 TPS right behind where it sits. Seems like a complimentary test (to what Fraser suggests) would be to put things in different rooms to observe any differences.
