Yesterday Evan and I installed the antenna and access point on the hill above Puketapu Road (kinda near Harpham Street). So far things are looking good, I can pick it up with a laptop at my place (needs something a bit more powerful to connect however). We have people connected from Gloucester Street (myself), King Street, Kent Terrace and Ngarimu Crecent. Antennas used include a 14dbi patch antenna, a 19dbi parabolic grid, a 24dbi parabolic grid and a 15dbi omni, radios include a WRT54GS, a 400mw senao and PCI cards. Initial speeds range from 2-5mbits but tweaking should improve this. We are still ironing out the TCP/IP setup of the network, and tweaking the wireless settings. If anyone is interested or wants more details, please contact me here or off list. If anyone is interested in having access to a broadband connection via wireless, this could also be arranged (for a small share of the bill). Will keep you folks posted of any developements.
