http://www.geekzone.co.nz/BarTender/7403 can give you some insite into
cell tower locations. It pays to note that Telecom have a nationwide
3G network using 850mhz with 2100mhz infill, and Vodafone has a 3G
network with 2100mhz in main centers and 900mhz in more rural areas,
however it runs alongside their existing 2G network.

Personal experience and the experience of others has shown that the
Telecom XT network outperforms Vodafone's 3G network in a lot of
places. I have however used the Vodafone network in quite a few
locations around NZ and I find speeds of around 1mbit make for alright
web browsing, and I can get around 3mbit fairly often which feels
pretty good for basic browsing.
