FF Sync Questions

By that, I can't be sure that - if I use FF sync - that when I turn on my laptop (with sync installed), that my recent bookmarks on my desktop will be wiped/over-ridden/replaced with the older ones on the laptop. I've done a lot of searching around and it seems to me that the information from the laptop will be added into the information on the FF sync server. But, let's say I've changed a password for a web forum access, when at my desktop. Then I turn on my laptop - still with the old password for that forum. How does FF sync avoid the dilemma of the new password created at/via the desktop being sync-replaced with the now redundant old one on the laptop?
