Hi, I'm new, recruited by Jonathan, also a bike-commuter.  Long
interested in Linux from philosophical viewpoint but not (yet) a user.

Your meeting with 11 people leads me to wonder whether you folks are
interested in implementation of community wireless (CW).  I attended the
National Conference on Media Reform last week, in Saint Louis, MO.
CW is getting recognized as essential infrastructure for economic
development.  Case mentioned is South Korea.  Other nations do not have
the heavily invested "legacy" providers (Adelphia, ATT, etc.) who lobby
against the public interest.  If anyone is pursuing CW (or "municipal
wireless") in Morgantown I'd like to know who it is.  I'm also active with
Democracy for America, http://www.wvfordemocracy.org/, which could provide
some allies in promoting CW.

Another big topic in Saint Louis was local public access radio and
television.

I'm currently using Windows XP, and newly converted to Squirrelmail from
Eudora.  Regarding adoption of Linux, I am hesitant to mess with my main
home-office computer, and my budget discourages me from purchasing a new
computer for Linux.  If I could obtain a functioning Linux system cheap,
I might take the plunge.

For tech-savvy, I rely a lot on my son Luke who grew up here in
Morgantown and now operates from Berkeley, CA as part of the team at
www.bibliopolis.com.  They operate with Linux, providing open-source
bookstore software.  Luke says Morgantown is a world-class Linux
hot-spot, and I should get involved.
