I forgot to mention that I will normally not go out of my way to  
change the user agent string in a web browser. I am much more likely  
to encourage friends to all visit the offending site to help put  
alternative browsers in offending websites logs.

I also write emails if they have an easy to find contact us section.  
In the email i make sure i link to a competitors site that works  
properly in the browser that i'm using. There is almost always an  
alternative site that will work just fine in firefox.

The more customers they loose do to not supporting a browser the more  
likely they will fix their sites.
