Did anyone hear Beth Voorhies yesterday on public radio, talking about
fiber-optic infrastructure development in Wood County?  Copied below is
the letter I wrote her.

I'd like to invite local open source activists to look at

I'm more a user than a techie, just wanting to see things go in the right
direction.  Am I right to think that rolling out a physical fiber-optic
network in Wood County is a last-century idea?

I wonder if it would be feasible to roll out a Champaign-Urbana style
wireless network in Morgantown.

cannot occur without telecommunications infrastructure development.

Alternatives to fixed physical infrastructure will not be welcomed by
"incumbent" or "legacy" telecommunications providers such as Verizon,
ATT, and Adelphia.  Already, the industry is moving to pre-empt local
and state governments, to bar the development of community and municipal
broadband infrastructure.
