At this juncture, I want to provide an overview of what I feel has been accomplished via these discussions, and what conclusions we can come to. There really weren't any surprises. The same three people who showed up at the first Morlug reorganization meeting back in October are also the same three who are the most outspoken in this discussion. Michael is a pragmatist in the present tense, where I am a pragmatist in the traditional sense. I look at actual historic or political events with emphasis on the practical lessons to be learned from them. In this discussion, maybe he isn't looking at the rapid growth issue in the past with the same scrutiny that I am. Daniel Harris maintains his original suggestion about a student organization as a ready made package solution that includes leadership. We all three agree on the importance of leadership. Morlug is now in business. We are maintaining a regular meeting schedule at a regular location and we have experienced an increase in growth. This has been accomplished via dedicated leadership that we intend to make official from this point onwards. I see no problem in the implementation of a Morlug organization run under the leadership of students. But this is the crux, it will have to be run by students, and students will have to do their own work on their end, i.e., it will be their learning experience. The existing Morlug is a community based group comprised of professionals and end users from the surrounding region. We have one individual who has expressed an interest in helping with a student organization since he is becoming a WVU student, and there is also Daniel (existing WVU student). Obviously, we can funnel even more students into this endeavor especially with the upcoming Installfest this August 31. Is student leadership presently a good approach in the context of this discussion? No. David Smith correctly points out that a student organization presently doesn't exist. I do think a student organization can become a reality, but it will have to go through its own 6 month testing period at the WVU campus as we continue meetings at SRSH. I feel confident that our vicinity can support two Morlug meetings a month, and if a student organization could maintain one of these monthly meetings, it would be a boon to Morlug. After six months we can determine our next move, but at this point we are dealing with unknowns. So where does this discussion lead to? Ironically, it leaves us at what can be perceived as an unification of Michael's and my ideas. Michael requests just a simple leadership where the leader tends to the difficult issues, however, we only have one person who has requested that he be considered that leader. A vote at this point over one nominee would be redundant. What I see occurring as our organization grows in the coming months and years is the assimilation of more individuals volunteering their time to being dedicated leaders, and this falls into what could be agreed upon as the establishment of the BOD I have talked about. As leader I will set-up bylaws to plan for this, and in the present tense I will continue serving Morlug and will continue building its infrastructure. Jonathan p.s.
