Fault came through today - no dialtone, line test showed hard short on the line. Turned out the customer's daughter had plugged the LAN port on her TV into a phone jack in her bedroom, via an RJ45 to BT adapter. Ethernet ports put a hard short on the blue/blue-white pair, which RJ45-BT adapters map to the phone pair. This will result in your dialtone going dead and incoming calls getting a busy signal.
