I only heard about this today, but Dennis Ritchie, inventor of the C programming language & co-inventor of the Unix operating system has died. His influence on today's operating software is large. Linux, MacOS, GNU and the BSD operating systems are written in C and direct descendants of the Unix design and API, while many other other operating systems in use today, including Windows, were heavily influenced by Unix. Windows is largely written in C, and C++ (Originally C With Objects) is used as the basis of other operating systems such as Nokia's Symbian. Thank you Dennis. -- Bruce Clement Home: http://www.clement.co.nz/ Twitter: http://twitter.com/Bruce_Clement Directory: http://www.searchme.co.nz/ "Before attempting to create something new, it is vital to have a good appreciation of everything that already exists in this field."
