unison and symlinks

 i'm having a problem syncing a directory using unison. it apparently 
 contains some symbolic links, which fail when i try to sync them

 zotero
 Error in writing symbolic link:
 Operation not permitted 
 [symlink(/media/robin_flash/dev/.unison.zotero.19dae01aa5b1edcf8cfc776e0bb2d676.unison.tmp/live)]

 i've looked through the unison man page and searched online, but can't 
 figure out how not to include them

 the '-follow' option looks like it might be useful, but i can't work 
 out how to use it

 any ideas anyone?
