problem with installing sendmail

Hi,
I am trying to install sendmailX on linux 2.4. After
running make install to check whetehr the installation
was proper, I am running ./misc/sm.check.sh. It is
giving the following error
   ./misc/sm.check.sh: post-installation failed: 23
errors
Could anyone plz help me out.
