Map program

Hi all,

I need to write a web application that displays a map of the United
States, part of Canada, Alaska, part of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Gulf
of Mexico, and when the user clicks on a state, ocean, or Canada,
return the result. For instance, when the user clicks on Montana, it
should return either the string "Montana" or some sort of key whose
value is Montana.

My program should also be able to change the color of any state or
combination thereof at the drop of a hat.

My program does a lot of other stuff, but once my data is in terms of
the name or key of a state or ocean, I know how to handle it. My
question is how to assign a keystroke to a state, and how to change the
color of a state.
